VOLUME 8: ISSUE 3
If you ask what her favorite outfit is, you will learn that Haley loves wearing her Dream House t-shirt. When her 3-ring notebook, sporting a Dream House sticker, began to fall apart, Haley requested not only a new sticker, but brochures!
Because it Matters
Haley has a long history with Dream House - as long a history as the very first Dream House kid, Katie Moore. Haley's mom, Kathy was Katie's CASA Representative when, as a foster child, she first came to live at the Lilburn Transition Care Home. These girls are close in age and have known each other for years. Haley has witnessed first hand how dramatically Katie's life has changed for the better. She wants other kids, like Katie, to also have the chance for a better life.
Haley is a Dream House Ambassador, and takes that role very seriously. For years, she has saved her allowance and sold lemonade to so she could personally donate money to help kids like Katie. Now 10, Haley has upped her game.
Seize the Moment, Take a Stand
Recently Haley asked permission to visit the principal's office. Her intent? She wants more people to know about the great work Dream House is doing for kids in Georgia. Haley suggested that her school have a fundraiser for Dream House. She pitched the concept, made a persuasive case for support, and in the end, won approval for her idea.
Soon, fellow students at Haley's school will do something fun and worthwhile to help the kids that Dream House serves. And just maybe, one of those students, a teacher or a parent will catch some of Haley's enthusiasm about the Dream House mission, too.
One Person Can
Haley's courage and sheer determination prove that when you truly believe in something, no barrier or challenge is too great to overcome.
Take heart and inspiration from Haley. One individual does not have to move heaven and earth to get something done. Instead, staying true to what you believe will move mountains.
Get Involved
As the only ‘Hospital-to-Home’ program in Georgia, the Dream House Family for Keeps™ Transition Care Program enables more families to care for medically fragile children at home by:
- Providing a voice for Georgia's medically fragile children;
- Setting the standard for home care of these children;
- Improving quality of life by keeping more of these children out of institutional care and at home with their families;
- Reducing the numbers of these children placed in foster care;
- Benefiting the state, the tax payers and health care institutions with a more effective and efficient way to care for these children.
