VOLUME 7: ISSUE 3
It was AWESOME!
How many kids come home from their very first day of school – EVER – brimming with such enthusiasm? David did! Having never experienced day care, preschool or kindergarten, school has been a revelation to this young boy.
Most of us take for granted a ‘normal’ childhood and all that means. However, children like David have had very limited exposure to what the average healthy child has encountered since birth. David is just now getting his first chance to really live. No longer does he simply survive each day. He is thriving!
A safe haven to heal.
David has benefited from our unique transition care program as he regains his strength and stamina at the Dream House Lilburn Transition Care Home. Although still burdened by the many physical restrictions that result from being medically fragile, David is learning to experience life as a ‘regular kid.’ He has an appetite and is growing. He is having fun, creating joyful memories and learning important social skills that he will use more and more as his condition continues to stabilize. Thanks to the generosity of Dream House supporters, life skills that David is now learning will hopefully sustain him through the tough times to come.
When your world turns upside down, fear and heartbreak follow.
In a few short days, he will undergo medical tests associated with his condition. David will have no family to hold his hand through countless needle sticks, blood drawing and down-right scary procedures that would give a grown person pause. Can you imagine your child going through something this traumatic without you by his side? Most of us cannot.
Helping kids like David puts your support to work for them.
For thousands of medically fragile children in Georgia, situations similar to David’s take place every single day. Their health conditions prohibit normal daily activities and consistent routines. And for the kids languishing in hospitals and adult nursing facilities, what they consider normal is learned from television, only to have their illusions dashed when loving parents fail to materialize when they need them most.
Don’t you think it is time to broaden awareness about the daily challenges medically fragile children face so these kids have a chance to experience life? Dream House has the solution and needs advocates like you to help spread the word...
Dream House is shifting gears to survive, thrive and grow.
Dream House can only serve these children with your ongoing assistance.
Current economic factors, and rapidly changing State regulations that impact our ability to care for children at the Lilburn Transition Care Home, have unfortunately forced Dream House to temporarily scale back programs and services.
In coming months, staff will focus on Dream House initiatives endorsed by the Home Care Section of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Pending funding, Dream House will provide access to our one-of-a-kind transition care model and curriculum for physicians, care-givers and families across the nation.
When the new Children's Transition Care Center licensure becomes available in 2009 via the State of Georgia-Office of Regulatory Services, Dream House will again offer our full scope of unique transition care programs and services.
Your financial support is critical. Would you consider becoming a monthly donor? Dream House is growing quickly and needs the resources to meet national demand, as well as prepare so we may be ready to serve Georgia's most vulnerable pediatric population in 2009.
