2010 Inaugural
Summer Respite Program

Hunter Watkins began his summer by "living the dream" during Week 2 of the Dream House Summer Respite Program. Thanks to a Jackson EMC Operation Round-up® grant, eight medically fragile children will enjoy one week of respite during their summer vacation from school. This community outreach initiative between Jackson EMC and Dream House has reserved one of six beds at the Transition Care Home in Lilburn, Georgia for these children in June and July.

"I am a Jackson EMC customer and donate to Operation Round-up® on my power bill each month," Hunter's mom Christine Watkins said, "so it is exciting to see how these funds are helping children like Hunter in my community."

Caring for Georgia's Foster Children

This little guy has blossomed while at the Dream House Transition Care Home. Your financial gifts make it possible for Dream House to offer shelter and specialized nursing services for this child.

Our clinical staff was giddy with excitement last week because he rolled over for the first time, by himself. Three months ago, he screamed whenever touched. Now he is making incremental progress that will soon allow him to transition to a new home.

Last night, news of this foster child's pending surgical procedure spread like wildfire among Dream House staff. Who, on the direct care nursing staff, could volunteer their time to stay with him at the hospital to comfort him through the night so he would not have to be alone? Dream House Founder and CEO Laura Moore dropped everything to stay with him.

THIS is what we do...provide care for children who need it the most.

Ironically, this child was placed in the EXACT same room as Laura's young patient, whom she cared for over a decade ago in this hospital...the child who was the catalyst that inspired Laura to start Dream House for Medically Fragile Children. Read Laura's Diary of a Dreamer, Chapter 9.

Invest Your Pennies to Help a Dream House Child

Since 2006, a total of 371 Georgia child caring/child placement agencies have closed their doors.

Dream House relies on private donations to keep our doors open so we are able to serve children. We have experienced a dramatic shortfall in donations for April, May and now June.

In a brutal economy, we understand that every penny you donate needs a purpose. Dream House was created to give children with complex health care issues the quality of life they deserve by providing them with a home, a family and a future. Incorporated in 2001, Dream House for Medically Fragile Children, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit, charity organization.

The Dream House vision is to empower families to care for medically fragile children at home, improve their quality of life, and benefit the State of Georgia, the tax payers and healthcare institutions by providing a more efficient and effective way to care for these children.

Your pennies increase opportunities for medically fragile children to live in a stable, permanent home environment through the development of support resources and programs which increase the number of families and communities prepared to care for them.
