NURTURE THE DREAM

Dream House Education and Skills Training: Basic Caregiver Class

Family for Keeps® Basic Caregiver Class Overview and Details

This basic class provides an invaluable hands-on learning experience. Whether you are a first-time parent, about to adopt your first medically fragile child, or an experienced foster parent, you will benefit from this program.

Participants will learn a foundation of necessary healthcare knowledge, skills, resources and coping mechanisms to help prepare them to effectively care for their medically fragile child at home.

Who should attend? This class is suitable for everyone who cares for a child with chronic, complex health care needs (Parents, Siblings, Extended Family Members, Friends). Others in the community who interact with a medically fragile child will also benefit from this class (Case Managers, Social Workers, School Teachers, Day Care Staff, Respite Care Providers).

After completion of this class, you are eligible to take an Advanced Skills Workshop.

Instilling Confidence

When I saw the nurses in the hospital, I always thought that what they did was magic. After completing these classes I realized that it's not magic. With the right training, anyone can learn these skills!
- Olive Hamilton, Foster Parent

Olive currently fosters three medically fragile teenagers, each child wheelchair bound, non-verbal, and requiring total care. The Dream House organization is pleased to provide support for Olive by connecting her with others in her community.
